What
is massage for fibromyalgia?
|
|
Many studies have shown
the efficacy of massage in the treatment of fibromyalgia.
To do this successfully requires knowledge of the condition
and technical skills that go beyond what is usually
taught in massage schools. The goal of massage in treating
fibromyalgia is to: reduce stress, induce relaxation
and help sleep, reduce depression, treat tenderpoints,
restore function to muscles, relieve spasms, and reduce
waste build up in the tissues. Techniques that are especially
helpful are gentle Swedish,
hot stone,
craniosacral,
trigger point, and lymphatic
therapy.
