What
is lymphatic therapy?
|
|
Also known as Lymphatic
Drainage Therapy (LDT) or Manual Lymphatic Drainage,
this technique uses light, gentle, specifically directed
stokes to influence the flow of lymphatic fluids. The
lymphatic system removes wastes from the tissues; it
moves fluids and is an important part of the immune
system. LDT is useful in many conditions, including
sinusitis,
fibromyalgia,
edemas, pre & post surgery, and cancer
therapy. LDT can be a useful adjunct to “detox”
diets. It also directly affects the parasympathetic
nervous system, which is our body’s system regulating
relaxation, and so sessions involving LDT are often
extremely soothing and stress relieving.
LDT is the cornerstone of the treatment for lymphedema.
Treatment for this specific medical condition requires
extensive training and certification by the therapist.
This training involves in-depth knowledge of the lymphatic
system, advanced LDT techniques, bandaging, client hygiene
and self-care issues. Therapist Elle
Lewellen is certified in LDT Lymphedema and CDP
therapy. For more information about lymphedema
