Your
therapist has specific, advanced training in the treatment
of TMD (temporomandibular disorder—commonly called
TMJ) and neck disorders. She will design a massage therapy
treatment based on physical assessment and your symptoms
of TMD. This includes systematic and careful attention
to the muscles of the face, head and neck with special
attention to the muscles of chewing. Candidates for
this massage therapy treatment are people with pain
or muscle spasms originating from the muscles of the
face, head or neck; and people with headaches due to
these muscle disorders. In these cases, massage therapy
can be an effective complement to dental treatment.
Free initial consultation. A minimum of three visits
are required after which time assessment of the treatment
will be made concerning further therapy. A medical referral
is needed for those diagnosed with TMD. Massage therapists
do not diagnose.
